Oakley players were involved over the weekend in four of the Whitchurch and District Finals. The Over 60s Singles Final saw Malcolm Grime lose by one shot to David Morris of Old Basing and in the Triples Terry Varndell, Richard Startin and John Ryan lost by 4 shots to Littleton. Terry Heath looking to add to his collection of Whitchurch titles, was involved in two finals, with Bob Goodyear losing the inaugural Aussie Pairs by 4 shots to Basingstoke Town but he compensated for this by lifting, with Janie Vickers, the Mixed Pairs title against Littleton - 4 shots yet again being the margin of victory. Congratulations go to all on reaching the finals and commiserations to those who, at the final hurdle, finished runners up.

Two BDBA semi finals have also been played with Terry Varndell reaching the final of the Novice Singles for the second successive year. At 5 ends Terry and Peter Killin of St Mary Bourne were tied at 4-4 but Terry then took control allowing his opponent only 6 more shots as he triumphed 21-10. Unfortunately Sean Lassman and Bob Goodyear were not able to have the same success in the District Pairs. Playing John Blair and David Sims of Alton, they led 9-3 after 6 ends and 11-4 after 8, only to lose eight shots in four ends. In a see saw game Oakley regained the lead only to trail 18-13 with just four ends left. Scores of two and one brought Oakley back into contention and they set up a five shot lie only for a David Sims firing bowl to reduce the Oakley score to one. In the shoot out, on the final end, Oakley held four shots only for David Sims to again remove three bowls. Despite Bob adding a second to hold game David was up to the situation and drew second bowl to give Alton victory.
