Walsall Harmonic Male Voice Choir
In 1897, Walsall Harmonic & Social Society was founded ‘… for gentlemen to cultivate a taste in music’. The Male Voice Choir was formed from that Society’s membership in 1970 and since then has continued to present a range of musical styles. Unfortunately, the Harmonic Society was disbanded in 2009, but we are proud to maintain their memory through our name.
We perform for charity events, local community- and church-based activities, and also in joint concerts with other local choirs and ensembles. In recent months we have sung in a variety of locations, including churches, community centres, town halls, social clubs and the Mayor’s parlour in Walsall. Our performances have been widely complimented, both by our audiences and our peers. We pride ourselves in the quality of music performed.
Our current Musical Director is Bob Share, a long-term member, has many years of working with a range of local choral groups. Despite our relatively low number of voices the choir has developed a distinct closeness and balance to our sound. Bob continues to build on that foundation to further improve our presentation and performance skills. He is aided by our accompanist:Kathleen Blackburn A.T.C.M., a retired music teacher. She taught music throughout Secondary and Primary Schools in Walsall, Willenhall and Wolverhampton for over 40 years. She was lead cellist with Walsall Symphony Orchestra for many years, also playing with the Stafford orchestra and being their resident singer.
