This afternoon Oakley Ladies took on Basingstoke Town in the National Top Club competition, where 2 years ago, Oakley, en route to the National quarter finals, sneaked home against the same opposition, on shots aggregate. This year 5 members of that 2021 team were unavailable for selection for the game so it was expected to be an uphill struggle for Oakley given that Town, in the previous round had eliminated the powerful Cove Club. A tight game was expected and, after 9 ends, these expectations looked likely to be fulfilled as both teams led in two disciplines. The second half of the match, however, belonged to Oakley as they ran out winners by 3.5 disciplines to 0.5. Oakley scores: Claire Flannigan won 21-12; Shirley Ball and Laura Butler won 17-14; Lorna Devonish, Jo Holland and Ruth Bown won 17-14; Lesley Dumelow, Val Ryan, Sandra Lee and Angie Rowe drew 12-12.
