In the North West Essex Bowls League both the Towns A and the B teams has resounding wins to get their season back on track. The A team travelled to struggling Stansted and came away with a comprehensive 60 shots to 40 win keeping them in touch with the leaders. In the second division, the B team, after a period of indifferent form and finding themselves drifting towards the relegation zone, faced a confident Radwinter team at Abbey Lane. The home side kept their nerve and gained a hard fought 49 – 45, 6 points to 2, win to ease their worries.

Unfortunately, the Seniors came back with nothing after a long trip to Epping on Thursday and on Friday the SBBL side struggled against the division leaders, Quendon. Having beaten them on all rinks in the first game of the season, Walden hopes were high but an unblemished record since then made the visitors favourites. With all rinks ebbing and flowing it made for good watching but in the end, Quendon squeezed home with a 54 – 48 win, which translated into 9 points to 1!

On Saturday, the friendly against Havers Park was played for the Fish Cup. In the first (away leg)

Saffron Walden had lost by twelve shots, so this deficit had to be made up across the three rinks if they were to win back the trophy. As the match progressed Saffron Walden began to get the upper hand but never got the aggregate score beyond the 12 mark until the final two ends. Thanks to a commanding performance on skip Keith Morgan’s rink the cup was eventually won by 8 shots.
