Wolverhampton Art Gallery June 2019
Arabella Ross Contributor.
“The March Hare” Oil on canvas 1886.
Purchased by Wolverhampton Art Gallery in 1988.
I walked into the gallery space and felt privileged to see my oil painting hanging there as part of a curated exhibition amongst other artists. The exhibition is title “Painted Ladies “ and presents 20th century paintings which depict women painted by female and male artists from Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s collection. Painted Ladies is an attempt to raise questions and invites visitors to participate in the conversation. This year is the International woman’s year!
The colours, marks, ideas and influences are all expressed in my paintings as I walk through the landscape. I draw outside, observing and absorbing nature. I seek to convey the passion I feel for light, form, colour and recurring images which emerge into the work from my imagination; animal forms, shapes, birds, darkening skies and trees.
