Malmesbury welcomed Wroughton Bowls Club on Sunday. What a joy it is to be visited by other clubs again - we have missed this experience over the past year. Two days ago the weather forecast was so grim that we considered postponing this fixture. Apart from an initial, and very brief, shower the game was played, in great spirit and in strong sunshine. The weather improved so much that waterproofs, jackets, and jumpers were discarded, as the temperature soared (well it warmed up). A thoroughly entertaining afternoon for all.

It was great to see Marlene in her first match of the year and John Opie in his first home match of the year.

John's performance improved after the emergency braces were deployed. Every club should have a set of these in a box, alongside their defibrillator, with a sign, "in case of predicament smash glass".

Our visitors enjoyed the experience of playing on the Malmesbury artificial green, so much so that they won two of the three rinks, but lost overall by 53-51 shots.

The scores on the doors were Mal 13 - 19, Marlene 12 - 17, and Tom 28 - 15.
