🔥 WEST SOMERSET BOWLS LEAGUE EXPLODES INTO LIFE IN WEEK 2 🔥
Shockers, steamrollers, heartbreak and heroics across both divisions
The West Somerset Bowls League delivered another blockbuster week of drama, with giants flexing their muscles, underdogs biting back, and a couple of clubs already staring nervously at the wrong end of the table.
DIVISION ONE – MINEHEAD A ROAR TO THE TOP
Minehead A have come out of the traps like a runaway train, two wins from two and a thumping +29 shot difference that has the rest of Division One glancing over their shoulders. Their latest demolition job at Bridgwater A sent a clear message: the champions-elect might already be warming up the engraver.
Burnham-on-Sea A and Williton A are matching them stride for stride, both sitting pretty on 22 points, both unbeaten, both looking like they mean business. Burnham’s ruthless win over Taunton A was the kind of performance that makes opponents suddenly remember they’ve “misplaced their bowls”.
Ilminster A complete the early-season top four, grinding out wins with the kind of gritty determination that suggests they’ll be hanging around the promotion conversation for a long while yet.
But at the other end… Wellington A, Taunton A, Eastover, and Bridgwater A are all winless and already feeling the heat. Wellington’s heavy defeat to Williton A leaves them rooted to the bottom with a bruising -53 aggregate. It’s early days — but the alarm bells are warming up.
DIVISION TWO – BURNHAM B AND WELLINGTON B SET THE PACE
Division Two is shaping up to be an absolute slugfest.
Burnham-on-Sea B and Wellington B are locked together at the summit, both boasting perfect records and both dishing out the kind of punishment that makes the rest of the division wince. Burnham B’s crushing win at Taunton Deane B was a statement; Wellington B’s home victory over Taunton D was equally emphatic.
Bridgwater C and Taunton B lurk just behind, each with two wins and a swagger that suggests they’re not planning on staying in this division for long.
Further down the table, the picture is far less rosy. North Petherton B and C, Williton B and Burnham C are all stuck on 2 points, all winless, and all suffering from shot differences that read like emergency room reports. If they don’t find form soon, the relegation battle might be over before it even begins.
