“It’s bowls, but not as your nan remembers it.”

Week 3 in the West Somerset Bowls League had all the drama of a wet Tuesday night away at Millwall, only with more cardigans and fewer police horses.

DIVISION ONE — THE TOP BOYS AND THE TROUBLEMAKERS

Burnham-on-Sea A are strutting about like the team that owns the high street. Three wins from three, seven rinks in the bag, and an aggregate that says “don’t even look at us funny.” Williton A are right behind them, matching them point for point like a rival mob shadowing them down the promenade.

Bridgwater B, meanwhile, have turned up with a swagger of their own — 194 shots for, 118 against, and a shot difference that screams “we’re not here to make friends.” Proper statement stuff.

Down the table, Wellington A are having a shocker. Three games, three losses, and an aggregate that looks like they’ve been jumped outside the chippy. One rink win all season — the sort of form that has the old boys muttering into their pints.

Eastover, Taunton A and Taunton Deane C aren’t faring much better, all scrapping around the bottom like the last few lads left after the bus has gone home.

DIVISION TWO — CHAOS, CARNAGE AND CARDIGANS

Burnham-on-Sea B, Wellington B and Bridgwater C are the Division Two equivalent of three rival firms all turning up to the same away day. All unbeaten, all throwing their weight around, all looking like they fancy running the division by themselves.

Bridgwater C in particular have rocked up with a monstrous +85 aggregate — the bowls equivalent of winning 6–0 away at Stoke and not even celebrating.

Wellington C are mid‑table, looking tidy enough but not quite ready to start a ruck with the big boys. Taunton Deane B, Williton B and Taunton D are all milling about in the mushy middle, trying to work out whether they’re contenders or just here for the after match sandwiches.

At the bottom, Burnham C and North Petherton C are taking a pasting every week. Proper “wrong end of the county” stuff. You almost want to give them a cuddle and a cuppa.

THE VIBE OF THE WEEK

  • Burnham A and Williton A: Top dogs. Running the show.
  • Bridgwater B & C: Causing mayhem in both divisions.
  • Wellington A: Needs a miracle, a new game plan, or possibly both.
  • Burnham C & North Petherton C: Bringing a spoon to a knife fight.
