A Volunteer's Rights and Responsibilities
Volunteer Rights
1. To be treated with respect by other volunteers and clients.
2. To be adequately briefed and prepared.
3. To feel valued.
4. To be well supported i.e. know who to report to and approach for advice; to feel comfortable when refusing jobs or giving up driving; not to be inconvenienced or feel let down.
Volunteer Responsibilities
1. Carry out the allotted task at the arranged time. Inform the office or Office Co-ordinator as soon as possible if you are unable to carry out the task.
2. Discuss with the Office Co-ordinator or Chair of Trustees any difficulties that you may encounter e.g. with a client, fellow driver, office.
3. Be prepared to say no, either to clients or the organisation, if a request seems unreasonable or too time consuming.
4. Report back if requested to do so or if you feel there is something that should be reported e.g. a safeguarding issue.
5. Respect confidentiality.
6. Client safety is a top priority. Please ensure that the client is settled safely in the car and with seat belt fastened. Generally it is advisable to escort the client between their home and the car and into the medical centre.
