Royal Mail Cart Bowls Club News

Individual Competitions Update

On Saturday (29th July) at 10:30am, Jordan plays Russ Robinson (Stute, Derbys) in the Last 32 of the All-England Champion of Champions at Newark Northern BC. The winner progresses to the National Finals at Leamington Spa on Tue 15th Aug.

On Sunday (30th July) 6pm, also at Newark Northern, Chelsea & Martin play Jamie-Lea Marshall & Joe Dawson (Kingscroft, Leics) at the same stage of the Mixed Pairs. The winner though plays on Wed 16th Aug.

Last weekend, at the Bowls Lincolnshire mens county finals at Blackstones, Martin qualified to the National Finals with a win over Andrew Bird in the semi-final. The County Final is being played on Sunday 11am at Sleaford verses David Hall from South Ferriby Vikings.

Martin was joined by Steve, Harry & Dominic in the Fours and beat Joe Lewis' (Grantham) rink in the semi-final, to also qualify to the National Finals. Their County Final is being held at Sibsey on Tues 8th Aug.

Tracy also played her area final match in the Senior Singles and had a fantastic win against G.Bolt (Horncastle) to reach the National Finals. She plays her last 32 match at Leamington on Sat 26th Aug.

Congratulations to all the winners and best of luck to everyone in the upcoming key matches.

Individual Competitions Update

Mixed fortunes for National Competition competitors....

Chelsea & Martin won by one in the Mixed Pairs at Cleethorpes on Saturday, but lost by one in the Family Pairs at home on the Sunday.
They will now be playing in the Last 32 (neutral) verses the Leicestershire winners.

Similarly, recently Tracy won here Senior Singles at Horncastle, but lost the Senior Pairs (with Julie) at home.
Tracy is now into the Lincolnshire area final awaiting her opponent.

Jordan won his Champion of Champions singles last Friday and now plays Mick Thomson (Moorlands) on Monday evening at home in the Lincolnshire area final.

Lincolnshire EWBF semi-finals are on Monday 10th July at Washingborough. Tracy is in the 2w singles, Champion of Champions, and joined by Julie in the Pairs.

Dan just came up short in the Lincs EBF 2w singles last Sunday.

Martin Spencer's rink won their delayed area final of the Bowls Lincolnhire Fours. Watch this space for publication of the County Semi-finals and Finals shortly.

Individual Competitions Update

Family Pairs Chelsea & Martin Spencer 19-17 Steve & Ruby Hill. 
Chelsea & Martin now play Kylo & Paul Cranidge on Sunday evening (2nd July) at home.

Mixed Fours - Steve & ptrs just came up short at Cleethorpes last weekend.

Mixed Pairs - Chelsea & Martin beat Kris Moore last Tuesday and now play Caroline & Dave Cullum at Cleethorpes on Saturday afternoon (1st July).

Tonight (Friday 30th June) sees Jordan play in the Champion of Champions vs. W.Phoenix at Burton House. 

Mens O55s Singles - Martin Simpson travels to pay Gary Morris at Burton House on Tue 9th July.

Bowls Lincolnshire Section 4 area finals:

Triples - Simon, Graham & Jordan lost to Chris Mycock & ptrs
O55s Fours - Steve Hill, Paul Caress, John Allen & Martin Simpson convincingly beat Nigel Cherry & ptrs
Singles - Martin beat Dom

Fours - Steve, Harry, Dom & Martin play at the Castle tonight (Friday 30th June) vs. Kevin Ekins & ptrs.

Lincolnshire EWBF:

Last weekend Tracy had two very good wins in the 2w singles and Champion of Champions to get to the semi-final of both.

Womens O55s Singles - Tracy plays M.Johnson at Horncastle on Saturday (2nd July) morning
Womens O55s Pair - Julie & Tracy again play M.Johnson at home this time on Tuesday 5th July evening
And this Sunday (2nd July) Dan plays in the Lincs EBF 2w singles QF at Burton House.

National Competitions Update...members involved are:

Get yourselves along to the Club tonight (Friday 23rd June) as there's a family pairs encounter of Chelsea & Martin Spencer vs. Steve & Ruby Hill.

Saturday night see's Steve's mixed fours rink travel up to Cleethorpes to play Dave Cullum's rink.

Next Tuesday (27th) sees Chelsea & Martin take on Kris Moore (Sleaford) in the mixed pairs at home.

Next Friday (30th), Jordan travels to Burton House in the Champion of Champions to play Wayne Phoenix. All the above matches are area semi-finals.

May 2023 Update

100-Club

Thank you to everyone who has supported the 100-club so far. We are down to our last 20 tickets, so if anyone would like to purchase a ticket, or an additional ticket, please let myself, Ed or Martin Simpson know asap. The first draw is Monday 4th June and then monthly thereafter.

Spalding & District individual competitions Entry forms can be downloaded from their website and a few are displayed in the pavilion. Entries need to be returned to me by 29th May. This will enable me to get them back to John Pearson by the 31st May.

Bowls' Big Weekend - Saturday 27th May 1pm to 5pm

We are involved again this season in the Bowls' Big Weekend that is being promoted nationally by Bowls England. Keep you eye our for our adverts on social media and on lots of local shops & supermarkets. Please spread the work and get any friends or family down to the club this Saturday try out our great sport....for FREE! Membership offers are available on the day. Volunteers on the day would be greatly appreciated.

Tournaments

The recent Brian Richer Pairs tournament was a big success - many thanks to all the volunteer helpers and all those that took part and donated a raffle prize. We raised £200 for club funds. Our Laurence Baxter Triples tournament is on Saturday 2nd September. Entry forms are on our website or displayed in the pavilion. Please let me know if you want an entry.

April 2023 Update

The outdoor season is almost upon us!  But there's much to do before we can even get open....

Please remember the working party sessions to prepare the green surrounds ready for the season to commence. These are TOMORROW Friday 7th and Saturday 15th April between 10am - 2pm.

Of course if you can lend a hand at any other time please speak to Ed (Chairman). It is hoped that Wednesday morning will be maintenance time from about 9am through to roll-up at about 12:30pm.

The current league fixtures list is attached, along with the relevant captains. Not many have let me know what nights you are available, so hopefully the captains are aware. 

Also attached are our tournament entry forms. It's hoped more club members will support these. They are fantastic days and raise vital funds for the club.

Dates for you diary
Green opening w/c 17th April - TO BE CONFIRMED.
First Friday afternoon games - Friday 5th May.
All other leagues commence w/c - Monday 8th May (from the Tuesday). The Monday is an extra public holiday.
Our pairs tournament - earlier this year on Saturday 20th May - entry forms attached and available in the pavilion.
Spalding & District competitions will be entered by end of May - entry forms attached and available in the pavilion.
Big Bowls Weekend - Saturday 27th May - details to follow.
Bowls Bash - a new alternative shorter form of the game, run during the season - details to follow.

You can use the green & facilities any time, free or change, for a practice or social roll-up. If you play in a match for the Club, then we do make a £3 charge. All club funds do get reinvested into the green upkeep and to help improve the surrounds.

Memberships can be paid any time from now, as agreed at the AGM, this is now £35 for full membership with U18s or those in FTE, free!  We have also included a 'social bowler' membership this year for anyone who wishes to be a member but not play in any teams. This can be upgraded at a later date. This membership option is £15.

A message from the Chairman

Dear members,

Much to do to get everything ready for the new season and a few things needed. Things you may have hanging around in the back of you shed, open cans forgotten about and drying up.

We need……
Light coloured ( any ) Weathershield or equivalent, for new roof on the cabin;
White gloss;
Putty;
Two rain hoppers and down pipes;
An Outdoor notice board to replace the one damaged by vandals;
Wood stain and preservative;
Fence “paint “ any colour ……. green or brown best;
2x wood pallets;
2x builders 1 ton sacks.

Of course if you can lend a hand at any time just speak with me. It is hoped that Wednesday morning will be maintenance time from about 9am through to roll-up at about 12:30pm if you can come along to this session PLEASE do. Thank you in advance.

We will be holding TWO sessions to prepared the green surrounds ready for the season to commence. These are Friday 7th and Saturday 15th April between 10am - 2pm.

March 2023 Update

I thought a quick update was due as we are only around 5-6 weeks before the green opens up for the summer - I personally can not wait!

We are looking at getting the green open around the 3rd weekend of April. When I send an April update I can confirm the exact date. This is when I will be able to confirm all league fixtures.

For those that are already looking forward to the outdoor season and are really keen, the Spalding & District (EBF) fixtures are now available on their website at Spalding & District Bowls League - EBF Fixtures (google.com)

As agreed at the AGM, we have entered two teams of 12 on a Thursday evening (Red & Green), two rinks of 3 on a Friday afternoon, and a team of 9 on a Friday evening.

We have also entered the Monday evening Fours league and two EBA Triples league teams on a Tuesday evening. ALL teams are mixed/open so there's plenty of opportunities for everyone.
