New Greener Energy Contract

On 24 March 2020, Mole Valley District Council’s (MVDC) Cabinet will consider a report recommending that it enters into a new greener energy contract. The proposed energy purchased would be from 100% renewable electricity sources and 76% renewable gas sources.

Entering into this four-year contract with buying group LASER Energy would retain a reliable, effective and efficient energy service for MVDC, whilst also providing price certainty. The renewable electricity energy sources include solar, wind and geothermal energy, and hydropower, wave and tidal power. The renewable gas sources include biogas.

Councillor Claire Malcomson, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We declared a Climate Change Emergency in 2019, and have committed to being carbon neutral by 2030.“This proposed new cost-effective energy contract is a more sustainable approach to meeting MVDC’s energy needs. The new contract would offer flexibility. As and when alternative renewable energy sources become available in Mole Valley we would have the option of switching specific properties to truly local renewable energy, helping us reduce our carbon footprint.”
