BT are carrying out a formal consultation process regarding their programme of intended public payphone removals. There are 3 payphones in Abinger that BT are considering to remove due to lack of usage. These are:-

Abinger Common on Abinger Lane (opposite Pasture Wood House)

Forest Green on Horsham Road (opposite Tilley’s Croft on the corner of green)

Walliswood on Horsham Road (outside Woodend)

BT are giving local communities the opportunity to ‘adopt’ their traditional red ‘heritage’ phone box. The Parish Council can purchase the phone box for £1 and we are looking for any local community groups who are interested in maintaining a decommissioned phone box in their area as we do not want to impose any decision on the residents. You can then find a use for the box or just preserve it as part of your local heritage.

Please contact the Parish Clerk if you are interested in this project.
