Refurbishment Updates

Alexander House - A Fresh New Look

March 2026 update:

Work is continuing at Alexander House, Bootle as we move forward with plans to develop the building into a safe, welcoming and accessible community space.

Over recent months, a range of essential improvements have been taking place to ensure the building meets modern safety standards and can support future community use. This work is an important step in bringing Alexander House back into active use for local people.

What’s Been Happening

The current phase of work has focused on preparation and safety, including:

  • Detailed assessments of the building to meet current Building Control and fire safety requirements
  • Planning improvements to accessibility, including facilities on the ground floor
  • Upgrading utilities and internal layouts to support future activities
  • Careful review of kitchen facilities to ensure they are safe, compliant and suitable for community use.

These works are laying the foundations for the next stages of refurbishment and fit‑out.

Alongside physical works, we have been actively securing funding to support the project. Grant applications are progressing well, and recent awards and community fundraising have helped cover essential costs.

Strong financial planning and governance are in place to ensure all funding is used responsibly and in line with our long‑term vision for Alexander House.

We are working closely with architects, contractors, funders and local authorities to make sure all improvements meet required standards and reflect community needs. This collaborative approach helps ensure Alexander House will be safe, inclusive and sustainable for years to come.

What’s Next

The next stage will focus on completing key building works and preparing the space for community activities. As progress continues, we will share further updates on timelines and opportunities to get involved.

Thank you for your continued support and interest in Alexander House.
We are excited about the future of the building and the positive role it will play in the Bootle community.

January 2026 update:

We’re delighted to share that Alexander House is undergoing a thoughtful refresh, bringing new energy and warmth to our community space. The updates will enhance comfort, accessibility, and well-being, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.

This renewal reflects our ongoing commitment to dignity, connection, and high‑quality care, and it celebrates the heritage and community spirit that make Alexander House so special.

Thanks to the continued support of our partners and volunteers, we are making steady progress with our improvement works. Volunteer painters are currently refreshing the interior walls, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for everyone who uses the building.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for essential external rendering on the south-facing wall, planned for Spring 2026. This work forms a key part of our long‑term maintenance and will help protect the building for years to come.

And great news: we now have a fresh water supply on site, and the heating is on, which makes a huge difference to what our volunteers and contractors can do day to day.
