A Community Asset Returned Home - A Place Built for Bootle

Alexander House has stood at the heart of Bootle since 1986, created with a clear purpose: to give local people a place where they can support one another, build connections, and live independently. From its earliest days, the building served as a place that strengthened residents' well-being. It quickly became a familiar landmark, a place where people felt welcome, supported, and part of something bigger.

A Shift to National Ownership

In the years that followed, Alexander House - Blackcombe Society was transferred to a national charity, a move intended to secure its long‑term future and expand the services available within its walls. While this period brought new resources and activity, the building’s identity gradually shifted away from its local roots. The connection between Alexander House and the community it was built to serve became less visible, and its role in Bootle’s daily life began to change.

On the 2nd October 2025: A Homecoming for the Community

A major turning point occurred on 2 October 2025, when a local sponsor purchased Alexander House and formally returned access to the people of Bootle and the surrounding areas. This milestone was the result of sustained local advocacy, partnership working, and a shared belief that the building’s future should once again be shaped by the community.

Alexander House became a community asset once again, ready to be restored, reimagined, and revitalised for the benefit of local people.

A New Chapter Begins

Today, Alexander House is entering an exciting new phase. Community leaders, volunteers, and partner organisations are working together to create a space that reflects Bootle’s strengths, values, and aspirations. Plans are being shaped around wellbeing, learning, social connection, and inclusive support, ensuring the building continues to serve those who need it most.

As it has for nearly four decades, Alexander House stands as a testament to Bootle’s resilience and community spirit. Its return marks a renewed commitment to local people, local voices, and local futures.

Celebrating 40 Years at the Heart of Bootle

Alexander House marks a major milestone this year as it celebrates its 40th birthday,  four decades of serving, supporting, and standing alongside the people of Bootle. Since opening its doors in 1986, the building has been a constant presence in the community.
