Langton Cup
In August 1957, when Crowley’s Brewery - the owners of the Sun Inn public house sold the Inn as a private residence, Lt. Col. G. R. Chapman purchased the bowling green (then part of the Inn’s garden) from the brewery.
The Langton Lodge Cup (known as the “Langton Cup”) was donated to Alresford Bowling Club in 1964 by Col. Chapman, whose former home, Langton Lodge, backs onto The Green on the south side.
Col. Chapman, a long-time president and playing member of Alresford Bowling Club, donated the cup to be contested annually, both home and away, against Ropley Bowling Club, who were then our nearest bowling neighbours. The matches were to consist of three triples, with the cup awarded to the club with the highest aggregate score over the two legs.
When Ropley closed at the end of their 2016 season, Alresford invited Crondall Bowls Club to join us in the competition for the cup. The first Alresford vs Crondall match took place in 2018.
