Basildon is a small parish of approximately 670 households in West Berkshire. There are two principal settlements: Upper and Lower Basildon. Upper Basildon is situated on the eastern rise of The Wessex Downs, Lower Basildon borders The Thames. The whole parish is situated within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The village is served by Reading Buses and is within reach of Pangbourne Station through which GWR trains run regularly. Pangbourne is the nearest, larger settlement with shops, a library and a GP surgery. Reading is 8 miles away, Newbury some 12 miles.
