Ladies Day

Organisation and arrangements are progressing apace and it looks like being a very good day with 24 Ladies Triples Teams now entered. Lots of members have assigned tasks but if you have any queries, please contact Barbara or Jeannette.More raffle prizes always welcome.

A couple of pleas:

Sue J – lots of members have committed to making cakes, scones etc but we could do with a few more to ensure we can cater for our 72 lady visitors, spectators and club members. Please let Sue know or add your name to the list on the hygiene table.

Paul B – The following needs doing in the week leading up to the 12th August to make the surrounds look pristine: weeding, strimming, grass edge trimming; cutting back brambles, putting up gazebos (much easier with 4 people!!) Please can you commit to help with one or more of these? If so, please let Paul know when you can come to help and your preferred task(s)

Summer School

We are hosting children and young people from the Sports Route Coaching in the weeks 26th-30th July and 16th – 20th August. The days and times are shown on the website under Juniors 2021. We have a good number of volunteers but could do with a couple of extras on Wednesday 28th July pm as most of our Ladies will be away.If you would like to be involved either on Wednesday or another day please let Kim know.

Club Competitions

The main knockouts are well underway and progressing to the finals weekend on 4th/5th September. Sue J asks that those with games to play get them organised! Three one day events coming up: Drawn Pairs on 24th July, Handicap on 7th August and Drawn triples on 14th August. Please do enter if you are free. These are all particularly suitable for newer players and a great way to gain experience with everyone having a chance of winning. Following a review, the number of ends in the drawn pairs will be fewer then for the Open Pairs.

Fund Raising and Social Events

We need to get going on organising the quiz night and our annual presentation lunch as well as a fundraiser for early next year. These are really important parts of our social calendar and as fund raisers for the club –all were of course lost in 2020/early 2021 due to COVID.

We need people to help plan and organise these – ideally a small team working together. Remember we are a volunteer club and are reliant on everyone doing their part. Can you help?? Please speak to Jeannette or a committee member.

Bowls England Story of the Year

We have received our prize for making the last 5. It’s a Drake’s Pride umpires set and brief case. This retails at over £175 – no excuse now for poor marking or measuring!!!

Thursday Roll Ups 29th July

There is an away friendly at Ashford Rail so a lot of the Thursday afternoon regulars will not be at the green. However, do go along for a roll up if you are not playing in the match.

Our Sponsors 77 Wealth Management

Many thanks for our 1000 new score cards which arrived this week. These will be in use quickly in our friendly/league matches and on Ladies Day.

77 Wealth Management have made available to us a very interesting and informative WEBINAR on Long Term Care. It really is worth a watch - just click on: https://youtu.be/FCL0D43AMB4 A one page handout with more information is available on the home page.

Finally, some sad news - DAVID McNEELEY – a note from Jeannette.

It is with regret that I must advise you that David has recently died. He was a former member of the bowls club and was involved in building the club house. David had been unwell for a number of years and bore his illness with great fortitude

David enjoyed participating and latterly watching sport having played international rugby. I very much remember him supporting his wife Marion and her interest in flower arranging by spending many hours planning and building her props for the Biddenden Flower Festival.

We offer our condolences and deepest sympathy to Marion and are thoughts are with her at this time.
