About

Here at Billingshurst Bowling Club we always like to welcome new members.

Club membership is open to all, we have DBS checked members, a dedicated Safeguarding Officer, together with Safeguarding policies and procedures. But please note that anyone under 14 years of age must be always accompanied by a Parent or Guardian when at the green.

During the season the Club operates taster sessions to allow newcomers to drop in and have a go. The sessions are free of charge and cater for all levels from absolute beginner upwards. The dress code is casual but flat-soled shoes are essential. All other equipment is available to borrow from the Club, again free of charge.

The Club plays friendly matches against other clubs across West Sussex and Surrey during the summer months. Matches are scheduled every few days on both weekdays and weekends. In addition, the Club operates a considerable number of internal leagues and competitions. We also take part on two Cup competitions and have representatives in the County Men’s singles, pairs and Mixed Fours. In 2025 we reached the Area Final. We also take part in other Club’s one day invitation Cup competitions. In 2025 our Men won the Storrington Open and our Ladies won the Felbridge Open.

Entrance into the friendly matches and club competitions, although entirely optional, is encouraged and welcomed. We find that even those members in full-time employment are able to get out onto the green several times over the summer to enjoy some friendly competition.

Practice night or Club Night is Friday between 6pm and about dusk depending on the weather and the enthusiasm of those members present. The lure of tea & biscuits later in the session often proves too great!

We hold a number of social events during the year and members enjoy these very much, particularly those in the off-season as they provide a chance to catch up with old friends. Out of season there is typically a New Year Meal at a local establishment and three or four social afternoons where members enjoy various games and other organised activities such as a skittles evening at the Spur, Slindon. During the playing season we run a Family Fun Day, Chairman’s Charity Day (2026 will be in aid of the RNLI), a ploughman’s supper on the last Friday Night League match, a Cheese and Wine party of Finals Sunday.

We have a presence at the Billingshurst Carnival, Christmas Fayre and Family Day at Jubilee Fields.

The Club is entirely self-funding, so we are very lucky and privileged to have among our members a small but enthusiastic group who maintain the grounds and out-buildings on a regular basis. The group meets at the Club as required all year round on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

If you are interested in coming along to meet us one Friday evening then please feel free to just turn up. There is no requirement to book a place or to contact us in advance, but if you have any questions or would like further information before visiting us then we’d love to hear from you.
