WIN FOR BM IN SEASON LEAGUE OPENER
It was a successful opener to the League season for Bishop Monkton Croquet Club with an emphatic victory in their away match with Sheffield Parkway winning 8-4. The team was Chris Higgins, Bob Strover and Jackie Strover. Chris and Bob won all their singles despite having to defend up to eight opponents' extra turns. Jackie won one of her singles and contributed to a fine day's croquet.
Meanwhile, at the match the YCF Secretary Peter Reid presented last season's Level Play League Trophy, won by Bishop Monkton, to Chris Higgins.
And yesterday's victory completed a great croquet weekend for Bob Strover who had won the Bury 'B' National Qualifier on Sunday and now joins Jo-Ann Hughes in the National Final in Budleigh Salterton in September.

NARROWEST OF DEFEATS IN OPENING FRIENDLY
After weeks of unbroken sunshine and blue skies, Bishop Monkton's Croquet Team faced their first friendly of the new season on a cloudy, windy and chilly day in Bedale against Dales. It was a tense match with both sides pretty neck and neck throughout the seven rounds of matches but, in the end, Dales came out winners by just one point - the final score 126-125 in the home team's favour. It is believed to be the first time Dales have beaten Bishop Monkton. Despite the defeat, there was some consolation with the cakes provided by Dales for the post-match tea living up to expectations!
