Welcome to Boxford Parish Council!

Boxford is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of West Berkshire, England. The village is on the east bank of the River Lambourn, about 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of Newbury but south of the M4 motorway. The hamlet of Westbrook is on the opposite bank of the Berkshire Downs tributary.

Boxford has a long history, with evidence of Iron Age and Roman activity discovered in the surrounding area. The village is known for the Roman mosaic “The Triumphs of Pelops and Bellerophon”, discovered during an archaeological dig in August 2017, along with the remains of a Roman villa complex including a bathhouse. More recently, The Boxford Bog Oak, at 6,000 years old the oldest decoratively carved wood in Britain, was recently discovered in a Boxford back garden. This, along with many other artefacts from the area, is displayed at the Boxford Heritage Centre, helping to tell the story of the village and its ancient past.

The village is home to St Andrew’s Church, a village hall used for meetings and events, and a tennis club that provides recreational facilities for residents.
