Message from Bradenham Bowls Club

The latter part of March we held our preseason meeting, held on a Sunday afternoon breaking from the tradition of an evening meeting which was more favourable to those who are reluctant to drive at night. All members rejoined for the new season along with some who had previously left. They heard how the club had progressed over the closed season, its financial status, plus which leagues we are entering into. They are the Age Concern League with two teams, the Durham and District League and the Mid Norfolk League. The latter is moving away from what was known as the “Roving Cot” to play “Aussie Pairs,” a completely different format to before, but we think the members will enjoy the challenge.

Our Spring Tidy Up Day was held on Sunday the 12th of April with 22 members in attendance all conducting various labour intensive tasks which included. Sprucing up the Pavilion inside and out, tidying up the bowl shed, cutting, and rolling the green, cleaning the ditches and relaying the liners. The sun was out and it was great to see everybody and good spirit having a model while waiting for the next wheelbarrow to return to refill. Refreshments were laid on for all afterwards who were treated to hot snacks, a selection of cakes kindly donated villagers, plus a well-deserved cup of tea on the veranda.

The Pavilion and Green are looking in great shape for the open day which took place on Sunday 19th April. A great turnout for the start of the season, all enjoying a Spider challenge, playing three games of four ends, each followed refreshments, and a raffle.

Anyone wishing expressing an interest in taking up the game we have Roll ups every Sunday & Thursday at 2.00pm for everyone to practise and hone their skills before matches commence. It’s an opportunity for new members to come and have a look and receive some free expert guidance. All we ask is you wear flat-soled shoes with no heels to protect the playing green.
