Brandon's Mural

Location: Brandon Heritage Centre, The Old Fire Station, 35 George St, Brandon IP27 0BX

Parking: Brandon Heritage Centre parking, 32 George St, Forest Heath, Brandon IP27 0BX

The mural was commissioned by MarketPlace Arts with support from Brandon Town Council. MarketPlace Arts is a charity that brings creativity and culture to the communities of West Suffolk and Fenland. Their mission is to ensure everyone has the opportunity to create and enjoy high-quality, ambitious creative experiences where they live. It has been painted by artist Luke McDonnell who used inspiration from mural designs by Brandon Teen Chill.

The mural is the result of a series of engagement sessions with young people in Brandon. MarketPlace Arts led an evening nature walk with local youth group Teen Chill to explore green spaces in Brandon, like The Orchard. This was an opportunity to take photos and be inspired by the local landscape and heritage. The teens were invited to design a mural for Brandon and these artworks were passed onto Luke, who worked the teen's designs together and followed their interest in astronomical imagery, portraiture and landscapes. The mural celebrates Brandon’s heritage, landscape, and strong community spirit and includes special glowing layers that come alive in UV light.
