The Bredgar Traffic Petition containing 160 signatures was today presented to Mr Matthew Balfour by Bredgar Parish Council Chair Penny Twaites. Mr Balfour is the KCC Cabinet Member for Environment & Transport. KCC Councillor Mike Baldock, Parish Councillors Brian Clarke, Andrew Dwyer and a local resident were also in attendance.

Mr Balfour took time to listen to the many concerns we raised about the speed of traffic through Bredgar and the serious risk this poses for residents. He explained that he takes our concerns most seriously but that budget reductions for Kent Highway Services make this a challenging time to address issues. He agreed to visit Bredgar in the New Year to see the problem first hand, to follow up with council officers to understand any proposals and costs they have already prepared, to investigate if Bredgar can be involved in a speed gun initiative, and to look at solutions that require funding or 'creative' solutions with lower funding needs.

Bredgar Parish Council would like to thank Mr Balfour for his time and attention. We will look forward to his formal response and visit to Bredgar in the new year.
