Bredgar Parish Council have drawn up a draft speed limit proposal for Bredgar. The draft proposal reduces some existing speed limits and creates a 20MPH limit through the centre of the village.  The draft proposal was approved at the Parish Council Meeting on the 14th November and will be taken to Kent Highways for their professional input and to obtain costs.  The draft proposal may need to be modified to ensure it complies with highway regulations and provides a safe solution.

Many villages in Kent are seeking to implement 20MPH limits. Nationally there is now a growing acceptance of 20MPH limits, with research and air quality improvement reports supporting them. All at a time when Kent Highways have been subjected to year on year budget reductions. Any funding they have for highway changes are spent where there have been fatalities or regular serious injuries. This means that we can be hopeful that our demands for 20MPH may be accepted but that the main obstacle to implementation will be funding.

A PDF version of the Draft Proposal can be found here.
