Climate and Nature Champion

Bulwick Parish Council Supports New Climate & Nature Champion Scheme

Bulwick Parish Council is pleased to share news of a new initiative launched by Northants CALC the Climate & Nature Champion Scheme aimed at strengthening local efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainability.

A Climate and Nature (CAN) Champion is a voluntary, advocacy-based role within parish councils that drives local action on environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and climate resilience. These champions connect with residents, identify local environmental projects, and coordinate efforts like tree planting, energy efficiency, and wildlife conservation.  The scheme follows a highly encouraging response to Northants CALC’s Climate & Nature Survey carried out in spring 2025, which saw 181 out of 220 member councils report on the great work already underway across Northamptonshire. A theme throughout the councils included:

- Protecting local biodiversity

- Planting native trees and plants

- Organising community clean-up events

- Creating and maintaining wildlife habitats

- Implementing LED street lighting

Similar to the Police Liaison Representative (PLR) Scheme, Climate & Nature Champions will receive updates and guidance from Northants CALC and be invited to participate in online meetings including an annual county-wide session and several thematic events throughout the year.

The Climate & Nature Champion will act as a representative for Bulwick Parish Council on all matters relating to climate, nature, and the environment. They will also act as a key point of contact and help coordinate local action to support environmental sustainability and biodiversity.

Bulwick Parish Council welcomes the community’s interest in this role and encourages anyone keen to get involved in local environmental action to contact clerk@bulwickparishcouncil.gov.uk. The clerk for Bulwick Parish Council is your CAN Champion. They are a central point for the council and can update everyone on what's happening.
