The Playing & Poor's Field
This field was purchased as a memorial to Robert Anne and donated to the National Playing Fields Association, now known as the Fields in Trust who now own the site and set the rules and regulations of its use. The Parish Council are trustees of the ‘Robert Anne Memorial Trust’ playing field. The area is inspected on a weekly basis and any damage to equipment in the children’s area is reported to Doncaster MBC ensuring that safety is maintained at all times. Repair work to the fencing and an additional entrance was completed in September 2011. It should be noted that one stipulation of the use of the playing field is that dogs are strictly not allowed.
Donated by the Anne family in 1649, the Poor’s Field can be found on the left hand side at the brow of the hill on Burghwallis Road going towards Campsall.
The ‘Poor’s Field’ charity originally provided for the poor of the village and to help any parishioner who should fall on hard times. It generally provides a Christmas dinner in the Burghwallis (when funds are available) for all parishioners of pensionable age.
