Defibrillators/bleed kits
There are currently four public access defibrillators in the village which the Parish Council manage. They are all are registered on The Circuit – the national defibrillator network – and available by making a 999 call.
- On the front wall of the village hall
- On the wall of The Park Gate Inn
- 58 Hayfield Hill
- 5 Uplands Close
Housed in the same cabinets are bleed kits, to be used in the event of life-threatening bleeds.
How to find a defibrillator in an emergency
- The trained staff who answer emergency 999 calls instruct people at the scene of a cardiac arrest to give CPR and use a defibrillator, if available. Don't hang up - stay on the phone with the 999 call handler, using the speaker so you have your hands free.
- The most important thing is to give effective, prompt and continuous CPR and they will give you guidance in this. Keep going until the ambulance or first responder tells you to stop.
- If you are on your own with the person who isn't breathing, shout for help whilst you continue with CPR.
- If you can send someone to get a defibrillator, the 999 call handler will tell you which is the nearest defibrillator. They can't open the cabinet without the access code to the cabinet which the 999 service tell you.
- Defibrillators are designed to be used by untrained people and the defibrillator itself will provide verbal instructions.
- You may be the only person who can save that life, so don't delay or hope someone else will.
First aid courses
First aid is a vital skill for life. The Parish Council has organised free training in using defibrillators (AED), resuscitation (CPR) and first aid awareness, provided by the highly skilled and motivated volunteer crews of Burntwood Community First Responders. The courses have been very well received and attended. If you would like to join the waiting list for the next course, please contact the parish clerk - the offer is open to both adults and children over 7 (provided under 18s are accompanied by a responsible adult).
