Capheaton Parish Council

Capheaton is a small, rural parish situated approximately 15 miles south-west of Morpeth and 25 miles north-west of Ponteland. It is just to the south-west of the A696, the trunk road which joins Newcastle-upon-Tyne to the A68 and on to Edinburgh. Its two main settlements are Capheaton and Kirkheaton and it includes a significant number of farms and dwellings outside these settlements.

According to the 2021 Census, the population of the parish is 160, down from 171 in the previous Census, living in 77 households with a mean age of 42.7 years of which 74.8% are economically active. Less than a third of the households are owner-occupied, the rest being privately rented. Like most of Northumberland, the parish does not have a significant Black and minority ethnic population. 63% of census respondents described themselves as Christian. The government's Index of Multiple Deprivation shows the parish to have below average overall levels of deprivation.

Capheaton is on one of the main Northumberland cycle routes and its village hall hosts a lively cafe which serves cyclists and others at weekends. The village hall also hosts the Parish Council at its four annual meetings. There are five Councillors, and members of the public are welcome at all meetings.
