Police Beat Manager PC Bakin has issued the following warning:

It’s getting to that time of year again when the lakes and rivers look tempting to cool down. Last year Nottinghamshire Police had a number of reports that children and adults were jumping and swimming in open water in our villages.

Whilst it may appear to be good fun please consider the dangers you are putting yourself in. Many of our water areas may have hidden dangers under the surface such as shopping trolleys and bikes that get thrown in. We are aware of a sunken boat at one location. There is also the temperature of the water to consider, with potential hazards such as the shock of the cold water on your body. It could also put others at risk if they try to jump in to rescue you.

Only swim at sites where you can do so safely such as leisure centres where there are people available to help you should you get into difficulty in the water.
