Catcliffe Parish Council Home

Welcome

Please explore the site to see our work, our responsibilities and what we do. We hope you find this useful.

What do we do?

As the first tier of local government, Catcliffe Parish Council are responsible for some of the land and activities in the area.

Catcliffe Parish Council are responsible for:

Poplar Way Recreation Ground with 2 football pitches, changing rooms, a basketball net, youth shelter and children’s play area.

Highfield View play area

Running a Playgroup

Providing a weekly gentle exercise group

Event in the Memorial Hall

We are sole trustee of Catcliffe Memorial Hall Fund, which runs the Memorial Hall to be rented out to groups for regular activities, and private hirers for parties.

We have recently started a 3 year National Lottery Reaching Communities project to work with the community and get more activities and groups going on in the area.

Allotments and Bowling Green are rented out for a small fee and kept by the Allotment Society and Bowling Club respectively.

We currently employ 1 full time and 5 part time staff to do all of this.

How is this paid for?

All of our work is funded by the precept local people pay alongside their council tax, apart from the activities project which is funded by the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.

Are we part of Rotherham Borough Council?

In a word – no. While we often work closely with Rotherham Council, we are 2 separate organisations, responsible for different things in the area so issues to do with housing, fly tipping, and highways are unfortunately not something we can solve. We can, however, point you in the right direction of who to contact, and have arranged drop-in sessions at the Memorial Hall so residents with any issues have access to parish councillors, ward councillors, Rotherham Council staff, and police.

How does the Parish Council work?

The Parish Council is made up of 9 councillors although there are currently 4 vacancies.

They meet once a month for full council meeting to make sure their planned projects and budget is on track and to discuss any local issues, and every 2-3 months for the Memorial Hall Trust. Other committee meetings are arranged for events and staffing as and when needed.
