Recognition & Awards
Maidstone High Street Heroes Awards November 2025
The Maidstone’s High Street Heroes Awards wards, an event organised by Gullands Solicitors in partnership with One Maidstone BID and Metro Bank, recognises and thanks the Town Centre businesses and employees who go above and beyond for their customers throughout the year. In 2025 a total of 32 town centre businesses and 12 individual employees were nominated by the public, highlighting the outstanding service and community spirit that continues to shine across Maidstone. All four judges were unanimous in awarding the Judges’ Award to Circle of Friends CIC.
UK Bus Awards 2024
The UK Bus Awards is an annual national programme celebrating the best of the bus industry in the United Kingdom. It recognises people, teams, projects and companies that go above and beyond in areas such as community engagement, customer service and innovation. One of the awards ‘Bus and the Community’ focuses on schemes that deliver real benefits locally, where the bus operator plays an active role at the heart of the community. In 2024, the Friendship Bus was recognised as a finalist in the Bus and the Community category for its contribution to community benefit and connection, something Circle of Friends was extremely proud to be recognised for.
Digital Champion Award 2022
A Digital Champion is part of a Kent County Council scheme that helps people gain confidence with technology, from using email and apps to accessing online services, shopping, banking, and staying connected. You don’t need to be a tech expert, just patience and a willingness to support others. Wendy Pfeiffer received the Digital Champion of the Month for her outstanding work supporting older people, who often struggle with technology. She helped them access online services, use digital tools confidently, and she continues to inspire older people through her dedication and practical support.
Care UK Local Heroes 2021
In March 2021, Circle of Friends founders Wendy Pfeiffer and Diane Bromley were recognised as Local Heroes by Care UK’s Invicta Court care home in Maidstone. The award acknowledged their dedication to supporting older people during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly through regular contact with those who were isolated, organising safe walks and visits when possible, and helping people understand guidance and access local support. The recognition highlighted the positive impact of community-led friendship and connection at a time when it was needed most.
