Winner of 2017 Campaign for the Protection of Rural England Nottinghamshire Competition

At the Nottinghamshire Association of Local Councils AGM held at Epperstone Village Hall on the 15th November, Caunton was presented with the “Best in Notts” award and a cheque for £1,000.
This year 35 villages entered the Best Kept Village Competition and, after the first round of judging in June, a final 16 were selected for a second visit by teams of judges during July. The champions in each category were;
In Category A (pop 2000 to 10000) Balderton was the winner, with Collingham as runner up.
In Category B (pop 700 to 2000) Woodborough was the winner, with East Bridgford as runner up.
In Category C (pop 300 to 700) Caunton was the winner, with Orston as runner up.
In Category D (pop under 300) Linby was the winner, with East Drayton as runner up.
The champion villages in each of the four categories were awarded cheques of £125, attractive oak and wrought iron plaques to retain for one year and framed certificates. Runners up each received £50 and a certificate.
Best New Entrant
This category is for a village which has not entered the competition for 5 or more years. Four new entrants entered this year. The winner was Farndon and receives a cheque for £100 and a certificate.
CPRE and Wilkinsons
The competition is run by the Nottinghamshire Campaign to Protect Rural England and is being kindly sponsored for the twenty-fifth successive year by the Wilkinson Group of Companies. Entries into this competition bring the benefit of creating pride within each individual village and making Nottinghamshire a more desirable location to live. We are grateful to all the judges, village entrants and, in particular, to Wilkinsons for their generous support in continuing to make this a vibrant and hard fought competition. It is delightful to see four new villages coming into the competition this year and in all categories the results have been close run.
