PROBUS - WHAT IS IT?

A Probus club is a local association of retired and semi-retired PROfessional and BUSiness people, and others who have had some measure of responsibility in any field of worthy endeavour, who are of character and respected in their communities.

The Probus Club movement was formed in the United Kingdom in 1965 and had its beginnings in two clubs, both created by members of Rotary.  It is widely acknowledged that Probus had its foundation in Welwyn Garden City 50 years ago.  It has now spread to many countries throughout the world and has been described by a member in Australia as the best thing England ever exported.

Probus clubs are not a charity and do not raise money except for our own events.  Clubs meet regularly for fellowship and an extension of their interests.  Probus is not a “senior citizens” or “lonely hearts” club.  Each Probus club is autonomous.  There is no central organisation and each club sets its own rules.  A Probus magazine is published quarterly and is the only national publication enabling clubs to communicate, share experiences and ask for or impart advice.

About Us

Our Probus Club was formed in 1993 for male members and grew to 60, but attendance varies each month due to holidays, health etc. But at our AGM in March 2023 it was agreed to open our Club to invite ladies, and by the 2024 AGM we had 10 ladies enrolled taking the cirrent membership to 50 active members  including the new lady  members.

We meet on the 3rd Thursday each month at the Lindfield Golf Club, Walstead, Haywards Heath, Post Code RH16 2QN.  At most meetings after lunch we have a speaker on a wide variety of subjects both locally and of national interest.  We have occasional additional walking/lunch outings and visits to theatre.  We also have an annual 5 day holiday in April/May.  All member ladies present and past are invited to join our meetings twice a year for a Summer Luncheon and Christmas Luncheon and the annual holiday.
