The Almshouses are managed by Dorking Charity which is registered with the Charity Commission (No: 207251) and the Regulator of Social Housing. Ten Trustees manage the Charity and a part-time Clerk provides them with administrative support. On-site, a Warden gives help and support for the 21 residents.
Situated on the historic Cotmandene, close to Dorking High Street, the Almshouses provide a year-round safe and comfortable haven for the elderly Residents while allowing them to retain their independent living.
The Trustees place importance on the community aspect of Almshouse living that encourages mutual cooperation among residents. On 1st April 2024 Housing Providers became subject to new legislation from the Housing Ombudsman incorporating a new Complaint Handling Code with the aim of improving how they manage complaints. The Charity has to ensure it is compliant with the legislation on an annual basis and the steps it takes to do so can be found under the 'Performance' tab at the top of this page.
The Trustees host Summer and Christmas parties for the Residents and share a Christmas meal with the Residents at a local restaurant so that all Residents have a chance to meet the Trustees.
