Role/Duties
The purpose of the Parish Council is to improve local services and facilities, support the voluntary and community sector in the area, and represent the views of residents to other relevant bodies.
Parish Councils are the first tier of local government. Being close to the community it is often the first point of contact for residents wishing to raise an issue. The Council has a significant role to play in consulting with local people and representing those views to the County Council and other relevant bodies. It has a role as a sounding board for local opinion, but must also give due consideration to competing points of view, and find a way forward that is in the best interests of the area as a whole.
This Parish Council also provides the following services:
- allotments (managed by Ellington Allotment Association)
- bus shelters
- litter bins
- nature reserve
- notice boards
- planters
- playing fields
- play parks
- seats / benches
- war memorials

Please note these are discretionary (meaning the Council is not obliged to undertake them). Any additional services must be funded from the annual Precept (an amount raised through the Council Tax).
