The parish council serves a large rural area, approximately 90 square miles and a population of roughly 220 people, in the beautiful North Tyne Valley, just east of Kielder Water dam, encompassing the village of Falstone and the hamlets of Yarrow, Stannersburn and Donkleywood. The local economy is predominantly based on agriculture, forestry and tourism.
Falstone Parish Council provides several services in the village, including grass cutting, weed control, leaf clearance, flower planters, public seating and cemetery management and maintenance.
The name Falstone means "speckled stone".
Falstone lies within Europe's largest Dark Sky Park. The nearby Kielder Observatory offers guided tours of the night sky, but if you bring your own telescope or binoculars, a clear night will reward you with magnificent views of the stars.
The area around Falstone provides visitors with an extensive range of attractions, including:
- Mountain biking trails at Kielder
- Walking in Northumberland National Park
- Hadrian's Wall
- Salmon and trout fishing in the North Tyne or Kielder Water (fishing licences available from the Blackcock Inn, tel: 01434 240200)
