Planning, Roads & Byways

This group recommends responses to the Isle of Wight Planning Department for consideration by the Parish Council. It also deals with matters relating to roads, footpaths, rights of way, Speedwatch and road safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES / TERMS OF REFERENCE

Planning

  • Examine all planning applications received by the Parish Council, reading reports and gathering information.
  • Provide recommendations to the Parish Council on planning applications received
  • Liaise with the Isle of Wight planning department on all matters relating to planning process in the parish.
  • Ensure that proposals adhere to current planning policies and the broader Isel of Wight plans.
  • Where appropriate, consults with residents to gauge their views on planning issues and incorporate their feedback into recommendations.

Roads and Byways

  • Identify and Prioritize Road Safety Issues: This includes issues such as speeding, dangerous parking, poor signage, and inadequate lighting or drainage.
  • Gather Information and Evidence: Collects and collates complaints, concerns, and relevant data to support concerns of road safety problems.
  • Maintain a close relationship with Isle of Wight Council, Island Roads and local police to ensure concerns are addressed and to remind them of their responsibilities.
  • Monitor and report on the condition of public rights of way (PRoWs), advocating for their maintenance and accessibility, and working with Isle of Wight Council, Island Roads and landowners to ensure paths remain open, well-signposted, and free from obstruction.
