Centenary Celebrations

In 2025, Gosport Bowling Club proudly marked its 100th Anniversary, celebrating a century of sporting camaraderie, community spirit, and the timeless game of lawn bowls. Established in 1925, the club has grown from a single-green venue to a thriving local institution with deep roots in Gosport’s sporting life.

 

Bowls England Celebration Match – Centenary Year Highlight

As part of our 100th Anniversary celebrations, Gosport Bowling Club was honoured to host an official Bowls England Celebration Match during the 2025 season. This prestigious fixture marked a century of bowling at Gosport and recognised the club’s long-standing contribution to the sport and the local community. Members enjoyed a memorable day of competitive yet friendly bowls, welcoming the Bowls England representative team to our green and celebrating the occasion with refreshments and fellowship off the rink. A proud and fitting highlight of our centenary year.

 

Portsmouth & District Bowls Association Celebration Matches

Continuing the centenary celebrations, Gosport Bowling Club was also delighted to welcome teams from the Portsmouth & District Bowls Association for special celebration matches during the season. These fixtures provided another opportunity to mark the club’s 100-year milestone with friends from across the district, showcasing competitive bowls played in excellent spirit and reinforcing the strong links Gosport BC has built within local bowling over many decades.

 

Friends of Bowls Celebration Match

The centenary year was further enhanced by a special Friends of Bowls celebration match, bringing together bowlers united by their shared love of the game. Played in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the match reflected everything Gosport Bowling Club stands for — sportsmanship, camaraderie and community — and provided a fitting addition to an unforgettable programme of centenary celebrations.
