President’s Report

Eric Smith

The new people who have joined the club have stepped up and played in the teams for us – this has been fantastic. A lot of people doing a little bit of work is so much better than a few people trying to do too much. Thank you to all the team Captains.

Treasurer’s Report

Tom Entwistle

Secretary’s Report

Samantha Stevenson

Thanks to everyone who has supported the club this year and thanks for supporting all the events.

Please can all Captains send over details of 2024 fixtures as soon as they can in 2024. This helps with the membership handbook.

Team Captain’s Report – EBA

Dave Pickard

Thanks from Paul – it has been really positive having new players who have joined in. He will continue to send out match reports after each match. Paul feels people have enjoyed being asked to play and he will continue to ask different members of the club to join in the EBA league.

Team Captain’s Report – Cleveland

Sue Entwistle

SECRETARY

Thank you to everyone who has played for the club in the Cleveland League. We fulfilled all our fixtures and finished 4th in the league out of 11. We finished with 125 points: Skelton won with 133 points. The team below us finished with 102 points.

Team Captain’s Report – Langbaurgh

Jim Smith

Thanks to every one who played and we came runners up. For a small club we have done really well.

Team Captain’s Report – Afternoon Triples – Cleveland

Marlene Hall

Marlene has turned up for every match but unfortunately was not able to play due to illness. We finished 14th but we beat KGV.

Refreshments have been a bit hit and miss. From 2024 – Secretary will take over purchasing all the refreshments for the season and keep topping them up.

Team Captain’s Report – VETS League

Mike Binks

Chaos with some clubs not played enough games. The results don’t reflect what has happened this year. Very difficult to get hold of people to get information. Mike has several issues to bring up at the AGM

Team Captain’s Report – Teesside Ladies

Jackie Haw

Thank you to every lady who has played this season. Thanks to all those who have played at short notice, All matches were played in good weather. We came runner up behind Elmtree. Collecting the trophy at the AGM on 11th October.

Friendly Captain

Sam Stevenson

Played 3 out of 6. It has been very difficult to get teams together.

We will try and play against teams we don’t play against in the leagues: Sleights and Thirsk

Social Bowls

Jackie Haw

Social bowls had been very successful this year. Thank you to Doreen Bassett and Eric Smith for supporting with coaching. There has been regular attendance and people have enjoyed their bowling.

Green Keeper’s Report

Eric Smith

Thanks to everyone who have helped with maintaining the green. Always need 2 people when we use machinery. Much better green this year – we think this has been due to the better mower and new attachments. The cutters need to be taken to Redcar to be serviced ready for 2024 – can anyone help with a trailer or van please?

AGM Agenda Requests

Discrimination – Mike Binks

Mike presented an exposition regarding discrimination he has experienced in his life and then moved to discuss the discrimination at GPBC.

Discrimination Issue: Refreshments – white crockery – this crockery is for the use of the ladies.

It is illegal for us to discriminate against other members in the club .

Jackie Haw explained that several years ago we were offering afternoon tea for ladies matches and the crockery was purchased so that we would have a matched set for guests.

It was agreed at the meeting that we would keep all the matching crockery for special events only and that all club captains would ensure that everyday crockery was used for refreshments during and after matches.

It was also agreed that we should add this statement to our constitution and display this as a notice to all members:

Statement: regarding discriminatory –

Guisborough Priory Bowls Club abhors any form of discrimination. Every member is equal to every other member and all facilities are available to be used equally by all members.

Proposed by Mike Binks and seconded by Paul Stevenson

Cleaning Rota – Alison Phillips

Alison proposed that we go back to having a cleaning rota for the 2024 season as some areas of the club have looked a little unhygienic this year.

It was agreed that Alison would draw up the rota and each member would be asked if they would agree to being on the rota when they renewed their membership.

Payments – Tom Entwistle

SECRETARY Please do not use the payments box during the closed season. For 2024, it would be a big help if players could refrain from bringing small denomination coins to pay their match fees – these take a lot of time to add up and this means additional work for team captains and the treasurer when cashing up.

New Mats – Sam Stevenson

Kindly donated by Coop Funeral Care in Guisborough

Christmas Party – Sam Stevenson

Please ensure all payments are sent to Tom Entwistle as soon as possible. If paying by BACCS transfer, please email Tom to let him know you have sent a payment.

AOB

Refreshments – Sam Stevenson

It was agreed that the Secretary would purchase all refreshments at the beginning of each would and they would be available for all Team Captains and the Social Bowls organiser to use throughout the playing week. The secretary would claim back the costs from club funds via the Treasurer.

Contact List – Marlene Hall

Marlene expressed concern that because of GDPR we longer had telephone numbers of other bowls club captains displayed and this was an issue if they needed to be contacted. The Secretary suggested that she would circulate a hard copy of all contact details to club captains but these must not be pinned on the board but kept safe by the club captains.

Away Matches Travel Costs – Mike Naylor

It was suggested that we need to increase the cost of passenger payments to drivers in line with the increase in the cost of fuel. The meeting agreed to set the payment for 2024 at

£2 per journey

£3 for Hutton Rudby, Northallerton, Elm Tree and Billingham

Congratulations – Mary Smith

Well done to everyone who has played in competitions, played for the county and national matches. A round of applause was given.

Hedgehog Escape Routes – Eric Smith

As we seem to be having more hedgehogs visiting the bowling club and they keep getting trapped on the green, Eric wanted to let people know that he was making some special hedgehog ramps to enable them to escape from the gutters around the green. Please do not remove them.

President Fine - Paul Stevenson

Paul proposed that should the President call out Geronimo in a match when he believes he has sent a winning shot and it is not a winning shot, he should be fined £2.50 for each time this occurs. This was agreed.

The meeting closed at 11.40am
