PRESS RELEASE

Funding approved for Bridleway Preservation and improvements to the Nature Reserve between the riverside car park and Gunthorpe Nature Reserve.

Villagers and visitors to Gunthorpe are set to see improvements to the bridleway path and further development to the Nature Reserve thanks to a £24,993 grant from FCC Communities Foundation.

The money will be used to preserve the footpath along the bridleway from the car park, in front of the memorial area and up to the Nature Reserve entrance at Gunthorpe riverside.

Cam Pearson, representative of the Riverside volunteers, believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area. He says: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Gunthorpe. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our Nature Reserve and bridleway taking shape over the next 12 months”

FCC Communities Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, Grant Manager at FCC Communities Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to support this project in Gunthorpe, which will both enhance access to the riverside and protect a valued natural environment. Improving the bridleway and developing the Nature Reserve will create lasting benefits for local residents and visitors alike, encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors while preserving the area for future generations. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have over the coming year.”

Cam Pearson hopes the bridleway and improvements to the Nature Reserve will be ready to use by October 2026.
