Information from Durham County Council Civic Pride Team

"We are writing to make you aware of the weather warnings in place for the UK this weekend. Storm Austen and Storm Boelo are set to bring inclement weather to large parts of England this weekend, including County Durham.

Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority while you are volunteering in County Durham. For this reason, we do not recommend litter picking during this period. I know many of you will be keen to carry on your activity over the weekend, but please consider the risks associated with heavy winds and prolonged rainfall.

If you do choose to carry out a litter pick, please ensure you read the attached volunteer guidelines and familiarise yourself with the risks related to the activity.
