Llanbister Community Council Home

The village of Llanbister is a small quite hamlet nestled on the side of the Ithon Valley in the beautiful Mid Wales. Llanbister is rich in local history, with its origins dating back as far as the early medieval period when St Cynllo set up the village’s first church in the 6th century. Although that church no longer stands the village has an Anglican Church in the centre St Cynllo dating back to the 13th century. Just outside the hamlet there is The Pound Baptist Chapel, situated on the road to Llangunllo.

The community enjoys good communication links with the A483 running underneath the village. There is a bus route (T4) linking to Brecon and Newtown which runs every 2 hours in both directions. At Llanbister Road there is a Heart of Wales railway station linking Shrewsbury to Swansea.
Other facilities Llanbister has to offer is the primary school, Llanbister CP School, a children’s play area, a community hall and hub which are available for use on many occasions, The Lion Hotel and The Poplars which is an air b&b.

Llanbister is situated close to beauty spots like the Elan Valley nearby as well as several fantastic walks, including the famous Glyndwr’s Way and Offa’s Dyke. Nearby towns include Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader, Builth Wells (home of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show), Knighton and Presteigne.

There is a small cottage hospital and group General practice based in Llandrindod.
