About the Community Council

A Community Council is the lowest tier of local government, but also the one closest to local people. Llangurig Community Council receives most of its funding through a precept, which forms part of the Council Tax collected by Powys County Council.

As a statutory body, the Community Council can only exercise powers granted to it by Acts of Parliament. It must ensure that public funds are used responsibly and only for permitted purposes, while balancing the needs of all parts of the community.

The Community Council is consulted on planning applications within the parish and will support or object to proposals where appropriate, taking into account planning policy and local opinion.

Contacting the Council and Getting Involved

Llangurig Community Council welcomes contact from residents on matters affecting the parish. The first point of contact is the Clerk, who supports the Council and acts as its administrative officer. Contact details for the Clerk and all Councillors are available on this website.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Attend Council meetings to observe proceedings
  • Raise local concerns or suggestions during the public session at the start of each meeting
  • Contact a Councillor or the Clerk with queries or issues affecting the parish

There are also opportunities to become more involved in local democracy by standing for election as a Councillor when vacancies arise or by assisting with community initiatives supported by the Council.

The Community Council values local knowledge and welcomes constructive engagement from all residents to help maintain and improve the parish for the benefit of the whole community.
