Welcome to Longhirst Parish Council

Longhirst is a village in Northumberland, approximately 3 miles north-east of the market town of Morpeth. The village itself is in a conservation area, but the parish is quite widespread, comprising outlying farms and the now-defunct Longhirst Colliery. Originally, the village was built to house the workers and tenants of Longhirst Hall, which is now in the process of being redeveloped to provide housing.

There is a very active village hall, which provides a variety of entertainments and is available to hire. An hourly bus service runs through the village, providing easy access to Newcastle and/or Alnwick. The nearby village of Pegswood has a number of shops, which are easily accessible from the village.

The Parish Council comprises 7 councillors and a part-time clerk. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every other month: January, March, May (AGM), July, September, and November. Meetings take place in the village hall, starting at 7 p.m., and any members of the public are welcome to attend.
