Mawnan Memorial Hall Consultation.

Thanks to all of you who kindly took part  in our recent exercise to find out views about our Hall. We are grateful to everyone who took the time to give their opinion on how the Hall is used now - and their suggestions on what could be done in future.

Over 70 people responded, providing a huge amount of information. The Hall’s Trustees will use the results to shape and guide their future management of the Hall.

The main result of the consultation was to show how people felt the Hall was a valuable community asset. People felt strongly that it should be retained and , where possible, improved . Views were very positive about retaining the weekly Post Office, and of providing a dedicated space for this service.

One of the biggest areas for improvement which you identified was parking. We know that this is a problem, especially for anyone with limited mobility. We are doing all we can to see what extra parking provision might be possible - but it is not an easy task.

People appreciated the improvements recently made to the Hall, in terms of new , energy-efficient windows and a replacement boiler. It’s important for us to make sure the Hall remains a warm and welcoming place. However - even though the Memorial Hall is a registered charity, we get no relief or concessions for our fuel bills, so we need to do all we can to manage electricity and heating costs.

There was great support for our other proposed improvements, in conjunction with the Parish Council. These will see an improved, level access at the rear of the Hall, and an office for the Parish Council Clerk.

There were some helpful and creative suggestions for new activities for the Hall. These included ballroom/social dancing lessons, bingo, musical events and a regular village coffee morning. There were also requests for exercise and other classes in the evening, so that those at work  in the daytime could attend. We are very happy to accommodate all of these suggestions, and if anyone knows anyone who would like to put on such events, please get in touch via the website or Facebook page.

One of the other main benefits of your views was to shape the Hall’s application for a grant to fund improvements to the building. We I’ll hear the results towards the end of July.

Once again, thank you for your help in letting us know how to make our Hall the best it can be for us all.
