Friday 19th April saw the lawn bowls players coming together for the normal pre season club competition draw. There are good numbers of entries this year and plenty of hilarity as the names were drawn for the preliminary rounds, or perhaps it was the effects of the bar!

The season opened in earnest on Saturday 20th with the Opening Drive. Members, looking very smart, gathered, or maybe huddled together, the sun shone, then it didn't, the wind blew and then it blew some more; chilly yes but it had no consequence on the bowling it was a good day, so much so many members are really keen to get out and practice. John E has, as ever, done a great job through a very wet spring to get the green ready, and ready it was. It bowled really well, short jacks were soon no more as, after a few ends, the green responded to some walking and bowling and reaching for full length was not a problem, the ditches saw some action too!
After the game we sat to a traditional bowls tea, sandwiches, and savouries followed by the sweet treats, it was so nice to reunite with our lawn bowls members and the social members who came to support.
Thank to all who helped to make this a great start to the season.
