The first day of our club finals saw 8 competitions come to fruition. The day started with bacon rolls and tea and then the first matches took to the green. Mens and Ladies Pairs were first up alongside the 2 wood final. Men's pairs saw Tim Hall & Ray Ash play Alan Boxall & Grahame Crane (winners), Ladies pairs we had Juls Howard & Helen Burgess playing Rosemary Edwardson & Zoe Hollins (winners). The 2 wood was Ray Davis against Stephen Saunders (winner), marker was Alex Brady. A lunch followed these games, a lovely shepherds pie with vegetables or a ploughmans followed by apple crumble and custard; getting players and markers motivated for bowls after a great meal was somewhat difficult!

Onwards and upwards, the tradition of playing the mens and ladies championship as the first matches of the afternoon was upheld. Mens Championship we had Ray Davis play Charlie Spear (winner), marker was Zoe Hollins. Ladies Chamionship we had Helen Burgess playing Kat Hornbrook (winner), marker John Everest.

The final matches of the day then kicked off. It was a worry if you had blue stickers as only reds had won so far, this was shortly to change. We played the Novices cup where Jackie Malton (winner) played Rosemary Edwardson, marker Juls Howard. The Handicap played between Mike Beswick and Kat Hornbrrok (winner), marker Alex Brady and lastly the Faulkner was played between Helen Burgess (winner) and Mike Blewett, marker Margaret Downs.

The weather was great, the food was excellent and the bar was open. A big thank you for all who helped in getting finals over the line, Sandra, Angela, Naomi in the kitchen, Ray on the bar and John for everything plus the green and the bar. Thanks to the markers, all the members and family and friends who came to watch and support.
