NEWTON BY THE SEA PARISH COUNCIL

Newton by the Sea Parish Council serves the parish of Newton by the Sea in North-East Northumberland which is located approximately 8 miles NE of Alnwick. The parish includes High Newton, Low Newton, Brunton, Fallodon and Doxford, comprising a total of approximately 135 dwellings.

The section of the parish situated to the East of the B1339 Road lies within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is an outstanding landscape whose distinctive character and natural beauty are so precious that it is in the nation’s interest to safeguard them.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a statutory designation established by the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. Together with National Parks, AONBs represent the nation’s finest landscapes. The primary purpose of the AONB designation is to conserve and enhance natural beauty.

The Northumberland Coast was designated as an AONB in 1958, covering an area of 138 sq km along 64km of the coastline between Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Coquet Estuary.

What do we do?

The Parish Council duties include:

  • Management of facilities and specific land within the Parish
  • Review and comment on planning applications within the Parish
  • Liaise with relevant authorities regarding infrastructure, policing, community and other issues to represent your views and strive to obtain the best outcome for the local area.
  • Engage with all interested parties regarding the current and future shape of life in the local area
