Norbury Bowling Club

Welcome to Norbury Bowling Club, a friendly and welcoming club in Turle Road, Norbury, London SW16 5QN. We are an inclusive, mixed club open to all and always looking for new members, especially from our local community.

We play a variety of friendly and competitive matches, and throughout the year, we host regular social events in our clubhouse.

Our History

Bowls has been played in Norbury ever since 5 May 1900, when the club was officially opened as part of the London & Westminster Bank Sports Club. Over the years, despite interruptions during the World Wars, the club has continued under eight different names, evolving through different identities as it adapted to changing times.

Originally a men-only club, the first women’s group was formed in the late 1970s, leading to the creation of the Ladies Club in 1977.

For most of its history, club membership was limited to bank employees and their spouses, but this changed in 1998 when National Westminster Bank vacated the sports facilities in Norbury. The land was leased to Anchor International, later taken over by PowerLeague and used primarily for five-a-side football. With the club no longer tied to the bank, members voted to remove membership restrictions, opening Norbury Bowling Club to the wider community.

In 2011, ownership of the grounds changed again, with RUACH Ministries acquiring both the Freehold and Leasehold. They have expressed their support for the continued success of Norbury Bowling Club, ensuring that our rich history and love of the game can continue for years to come.

Join Us!

Lawn bowls is a sport for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a complete beginner, we’d love to welcome you. If you’d like to find out more, get in touch or visit us at the club!
