Presentation to staff at Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) Reading – 21 January 2019

After the presentation to SSE staff in Thatcham (see separate event report), their organisers asked that we should repeat what we did for the benefit of staff in the SSE offices in Reading.

On behalf of the Group, Ken Woolgar delivered the presentation with help from his wife Iris and from Martin Budd.

One of SSE’s Managing Directors, Colin Sempill, introduced the event by talking about his own father’s diagnosis of prostate cancer. The presentation picked up the same themes: the need for being aware of symptoms and not holding back from going to get checked by a GP if concerned.

Ken and Iris talked about their own experience of the shock of getting an unexpected diagnosis of prostate cancer. The value of the Group to newly diagnosed men was emphasised. The success of the exercise group, and also the popularity of NHPCSG social events, were also mentioned.

The event was well attended by over 30 members of staff, and there were many questions from the audience who clearly welcomed the opportunity of learning more about the disease.
